Death Under Rainbows explores menacing psychedelia, feral twang, art rock, and middle eastern pop during the project's 21 minute span. It is both ecstatically kaleidoscopic and intensely personal.
"I love the electric guitar, as an instrument and an object," says Phelps. "It's a remarkably malleable sound source. A lot of what I do is very spacious, ambient, and thoughtful, so with this project I really wanted to do some playing that was direct and reckless."
Joining Phelps is a cast of expert musicians as well as renowned audio professional Joel Hamilton.
